Dixie Aquatic Race Team, (DART)  was founded in 1987 when Greg Fernley took over a small summer league at Green Valley, known as the Green Valley Stingrays, when the acting coach moved away.  With the help of his wife, Pam, they envisioned creating a first class competitive year-round program to challenge the strong USA swimming teams around the western states.  Later, with a move to the pool at Dixie College a new name was created for the blossoming team, which is still today the “Dixie Aquatic Racing Team”.  Greg and Pam Fernley, with the help of many of the parents of the team members, constantly petitioned the city of St. George to construct a new aquatic facility.  Washington County School District in conjunction with the City created the beautiful Sand Hollow Aquatic Center which became the new home of DART along with the areas local high schools in which the Fernley’s coached together.
